 Students must help one another to understand, analyze and give alternatives on their problems thru peer counseling.

            Thus, said by Dr. Lorenzo during the Peer Counselor’s Training last Aug. 20 at the Audio Visual Conference Center.

            “In order to be effective counselor you should be friendly and willing to listen and help” said by Dr. Lorenzo.

            He also added that students must possess the skills needed in peer counseling for them to be and effective peer counselors especially in articulation, active listening and observation.

            Furthermore, he stressed that God has given the purpose of helping one another that is why human is given two ears and only one mouth for them to listen twice and talk once.

            Students from the different departments participated n the said event. The students from the College of Computer Studies who attended the training to be one of the peer counselors were Christian Rey Tulio BSECE-3, Geed Beronibla BSECE-3, Mark Anthony Gabriel BSECE-2, Camille Gellada BSECE-2, Keiven Dean Dionan BSECE-2, Jayson Portana BSECE-1, Xerxan Mae Gonzales BSECE-1, Kimberly Romero BSCS-3, Fatima Gabija BSCS-3, Geraldine Mae Acevedo BSCS-3, Kristy Mae Auditor BSCS-3, Ma. Elme Salazar BSCS-1, Glymer Falco BSCS-1 and Mary Jean Cerado BSCS-1.

ECE team seize title in chess tilt

 The ECE team brought home the title as second runner-up in the mind boggling chess competition men’s division held at the College Library, Aug. 19-20.

            Also, Mark Delson Gamayao BSECE-2 grasped the third position in the men’s singles.

            Other wood pushers of the ECE team for the men’s division were Kenneth Mark Bulquerin BSECE-3, John Vincent Fuentes BSECE-2 and Nemrod Bangcaya BSECE-2.

            In women’s division the team was composed of Xerxan Mae Gonzales BSECE-1, Myra Borreros BSECE-2, Jhoan Theodore BSECE-2 and Ma. Lucille Contreras BSECE-3.

            The nerve wracking competition was in line of commemorating the 105 years of existence of Filamer Christian College.

As part of the 105th Foundation of Filamer Christian College, the Hillside Echo Publication sponsored an event called “Dahon, Pluma, at Litrato ‘09” wherein Postscripts writers reaped awards.

     The face-off was held at the College Library last Aug. 24.

     The creative thoughts and skills in writing of April Grace Garcia BSIM 4 made her won 1st place in Feature Writing–English while Kathleen Faith Lerio BSECE 1 landed at the second spot.

     Adrian Fortaleza BSCS 4 equipped with outstanding skills in capturing photos emerged as the 2nd place in Photojournalism.

     The main purpose of the event was to develop student writers’ skills in writing and to equip them in the practice of photojournalistic skills.

     Indeed, the Postscript Publication proved its worthy as the center of information dissemination and will remain steadfast.

CCS, ECE clutch awards in LitMus

The College of Computer Studies and the Electronics Engineering Department bagged awards during the Literary-Musical Contest on Aug. 27-28 at the Roblee Hall.

     In the individual category, Mary Jean Cerado BSCS-1 firmly answered the question she picked that made her topped the Extemporaneous Speaking in Filipino.

     Geed Beronibla, the orator of the ECE department with his fluency in speaking English grabbed the second place. Mary Grace Alvarez BSCS-3 classically sung her piece “Maya” who landed in the second spot.

     With his romantic version of “Tayong Dalawa”, Gabriel Baril BSCS-3 placed third in Vocal Solo OPM. In Vocal Duet OPM, Gabriel Baril BSCS-3 and Reshia Bunda BSCS-4 together they sung their way to the third place.

     In the group category, the CCS and ECE Department musically occupied the second place. They were Geo Richard Parcia BSCS-3, Rachelle Caldeo BSCS-2, Rizza Joyce BSCS-1, Mark Anthony Gabriel BSECE-2, Michael Leal BSECE-2, Ryan Roldan BSECE-2 and Kenneth Sembrano BSECE-1.

Gonzales wins bronze in Math Olympiad

Xerxan Mae Gonzales, a freshman Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering student solved her way to clutch the bronze medal in the Math Olympiad during the FCCSR Quiz Bowls last Aug. 24.

            Other ECE quizzers were Geed Beronibla BSECE-3 for the Math Olympiad; Christian Vic Dangan BSECE-3 and Arturo Cumagun Jr. BSECE-3 for Super Sci-tech Quiz Bee.

            In the General Information category the contestants were Welgardo Batacandolo BSECE-3 and Michael Roa BSECE-3 while the ECE team for the Bible Quiz Bee was composed of Danilo Espinosa Jr. BSECE-3, Jason Portada BSECE-1 and Japeth Farinas BSECE-1.

            The competition aims to enhance and promote academic excellence among the students from the different departments to make them more responsive to the needs of society.

            The said event was part of the Filamer Christian College Founder’s Week Celebration sponsored by the FCC-Student Republic.

ECE Tankers, Aquabelle splash for bronze

 Truly, Electronics Engineering, first in Capiz proved in academic standards and now excelling in sports.

            Being one of the top winners after ending-up third place in Relay Category during the 5th President’s Cup Swimming Competition last Aug. 27 at the Villareal Stadium in relation to the Filamer Christian College Foundation Week Celebration, at last, Electronics Engineering Department made it to be one of the winners.

            Ricardo Artillero BSECE-3, Joseph Ernest Morales BSECE-3, Harlech Cordova BSECE-3, Franklin Arrubang BSECE-3 and Mary Joyce Besa BSECE-2 represented the ECE Department. Efforts, hardwork, cooperation and trust in the group are some factors that helped them achieve victory. Although they were lacking out of time in practicing, plus the diminishing population of small quantity, but still, they had proven that all is possible. Determination and perseverance heeled their adrenalin to achieve their needs for excellence.

            The event was participated by students from different colleges and departments. Each group is determined to be on the top to give honor to their departments.

             The competition was spearheaded by Dr. Expedito A. Señeres, the College President and Mrs. Nenita Jarencio, the Tournament Manager.

ECE wins over HS

ECE shooters defeated the HS team by consecutive shots of Rolly J Corros that resulted in a thrilling victory of 94-93 during the Founders Sports Fest held at the FCC Gym, Aug. 18.

            In the last six seconds of the last quarter the HS basketeers seized the lead with a slim 80-83 edge. But Lynel Gayoma of the ECE made a miraculous three-point shot in the last second that ended the last quarter in a tie.

            Invigorated by their last game excruciating whitewash against the CBA, the ECE rookies tried their best and never gave up in the five-minute overtime yet the HS team did also their part to taste the glory of victory.

            At homestretch within the last 10 seconds Corros made a three-point shot making the score again on a breathtaking 92-93 edge. With great determination and cooperation in the last second Corros again jumped off the outstretch arms of the defender making a staggeringly lead by one that gave the ECE team an exciting and amazing win.

            Both have given their best which resulted in a superb battle that has made the viewers jumped off their seats and roared with untiring support.

            The ECE team was composed of Keene Prevaldos BSECE-3, Elmar Manejero BSECE-3, Ricardo Artillero Jr. BSECE-3, June Rey Llavore BSECE-3, Paul John Dela Cruz BSECE-3, Christian Rey Tulio BSECE-3, Ralph John Fanugon BSECE-3, Wildene Baldisimo BSECE-3, Rolly J Corros BSECE-2, Lynel Gayoma BSECE-2, Anthony Lawrence Azarcon BSECE-2 and Eric Cordovero BSECE-1.
